D3O’s head-to-toe industrial protective wear at Expoprotection 2014

D3O, the British smart materials expert, is showcasing at Expoprotection 2014 its range of head-to-toe industrial protective wear incorporating impact protection, shock absorption and cushioning materials.

“D3O is showcasing its range of head-to-toe personal protective wear that utilises our smart materials, helping to provide not only great comfort for wearers, but also great safety benefits which will reduce trauma to industrial workers.”
Mostyn Thomas, D3O General Manager

The British smart materials company D3O, whose globally patented technology provides industry-leading impact protection in the US team sports, global defence, footwear, motorcycle protective apparel and electronics, is showcasing at Expoprotection 2014 its range of head-to-toe industrial protective wear incorporating impact protection, shock absorption and cushioning materials. Expoprotection takes place in Paris, France from 4-6 November 2014.

D3O’s unique patented technology is based on non-Newtonian principles: the patent covers the use of a dilatant fluid which is integrated into the materials. In standard conditions, the molecules flow freely allowing the material to remain soft and flexible, but on impact, they lock together to absorb impact energy and reduce the force transmitted. The molecules instantly return to their flexible state. The raw material (dilatant fluid) is strain rate sensitive which means the stronger the impact, the more the molecules react, and better the protection.

Working in partnership with footwear brands Dr. Martens, CAT, HH Brown and Matterhorn Mining, D3O’s globally patented impact protection technology is currently integrated into work boots, providing top of foot and under foot protection. D3O partners with key global industrial and defence protective apparel brands Snickers, Patagonia Drifire and 5.11 and is funded by the US Army to test shock absorbing helmet liner technology to reduce the risk of head injuries caused by Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). For the industrial sector, D3O’s materials not only provide impact protection, but also major on comfort and cushioning properties, ensuring that D3O is the personal protective equipment that workers want to wear.

At Expoprotection, D3O is exhibiting its range of products incorporating the impact protection, shock absorption and cushioning capabilities and applications of its patented technology and portfolio of smart materials:

Mostyn Thomas, D3O’s General Manager, said: “At Expoprotection, D3O is showcasing its range of head-to-toe personal protective wear that utilises our smart materials, helping to provide not only great comfort for wearers, but also great safety benefits which will reduce trauma to industrial workers.”
