“D3O® powered by DuPontTM Hytrel® will be a tremendous addition in terms of delivering protective performance in the industrial workwear and electronics’ markets.”
D3O, the UK-based impact protection company, has agreed a long term strategic partnership with DuPont to co-develop D3O® powered by DuPont™ Hytrel®. This product is a versatile plastic material combining DuPont’s thermoplastic properties and D3O’s rate sensitive material.
The partnership will deliver a new material which will target the industrial, workwear and electronics’ markets using D3O® powered by DuPont™ Hytrel, which incorporates both smart and durable material properties.
DuPont™ Hytrel® combines the flexibility of rubber with the strength and processability of thermoplastics producing a strong, durable, resilient, and heat and chemical resistant design.
D3O has unique patented and proprietary technologies used to make rate-sensitive, soft, flexible and distinctive orange-coloured materials with high shock absorbing properties that are used in impact protection products.
D3O addresses a range of markets such as footwear, electronics, sport, workwear and military protection. Recently D3O has changed the face of protection for soldiers with a new helmet liner system designed to help reduce brain trauma and has introduced significant enhancements for safety in the oil and gas industry, with the introduction of a new flexible, comfortable and protective glove design.
The Company expanded its portfolio of materials from one formulation in 2010 to over 25 materials today. Most recently, D3O has developed a high performance grade of D3O® specifically created for injection moulding manufacturing, currently used in protective cases for mobile phones and available in a range of colours.
The development agreement with DuPont will further expand the company’s material offering to deliver durable, rate-sensitive, temperature stable thermoplastic materials to its global customer base.
Stuart Sawyer, Chief Executive of D3O, said:
“We look forward to working closely with DuPont to explore the applications for this innovative and highly versatile new material – D3O® powered by DuPont™ Hytrel® will be a tremendous addition in terms of delivering protective performance in the industrial workwear and electronics’ markets.”
“Our partnership with DuPont further expands our material offering and provides another example of the broad range of applications that D3O can deliver improved protection and shock absorption”.
