Sponsored D3O rider, Sam Lowes, battled his way to a fourth podium finish of the season at the Mugello circuit, Italy – taking him back to the top of Moto2 standings in the process.

Starting from pole, Sam crossed the finish line of the first lap in sixth place but he was able to recover, fighting with determination and passing Schrotter, Syahrin and Luthi to claim third, just one second behind race winner Johann Zarco.

“I’m happy for this third place, even though I’m a bit disappointed because at the first start I was feeling very good and I could easily keep a good pace. We worked all weekend with the hard tyre for the race, so at the restart we decided to keep the same tyre used on the first start, but when we started the 10-lap race I had less grip than before. However, despite a bad start I was able to fight and pass Syahrin and Luthi, thus getting the podium. With a race on the full distance it would have been better, but after the difficulties of Le Mans is great to be competitive again: we have been fast and we fought, so I’m happy”.

Sam’s podium finish now leaves him on 98 points for the championship, 2 points clear of his closest rival, Alex Rins.

Sam’s next race will take place at the Circuit De Barcelona, Spain, on the 5th June 2016.
