Congratulations to long-standing D3O partner, SCOTT Sports for winning the 2017 ISPO GOLD AWARD for its latest safety development aimed at the snow sports market, the Symbol 2 Plus D Helmet. The new helmet, which is being unveiled this week at the globally recognised multi-segment sports tradeshow ISPO MUNICH 2017, beat a number of innovative products to the honour within the award’s ski category. SCOTT Sports will officially receive the accolade today during the 2017 ISPO AWARDS ceremony prior to the tradeshow’s opening tomorrow from 5-8 February at the Messe München center.

The Symbol 2 Plus D Helmet has been designed and engineered to establish a new standard for low, mid, and high velocity impacts on the mountain. The new product features low-profile, high performing D3O® inserts alongside two additional innovative safety technologies; MIPS® brain protection system and 360° Pure Sound ear pads. D3O® impact protection technology is integrated in specific areas of the helmet to reduce the risk of concussion in low speed impacts, reduce the risk of brain injuries in mid-speed impacts and allow multiple impacts in such environments while comfortably surpassing the highest safety standards.

Alex Yellowley, Business Development Manager at D3O, said:

We’re absolutely delighted to see that SCOTT Sports’ Symbol 2 Plus D helmet has been recognised by this year’s ISPO AWARD jury. Both D3O and SCOTT share the same passion in driving innovation, technology and design to enhance safety on the slopes. This product is a real game-changer and undoubtedly sets the bar high for impact protection standards within the ski industry. It’s a pleasure to continue to collaborate with SCOTT’s team of experts on projects such as this that build a strong benchmark for competing products.

SCOTT Sports’ commitment towards developing state-of-the-art protective snow sports headwear began in the 1980s, when the company developed its first range of protective helmets for ski racers. Today, three decades on, SCOTT Sports continues to innovate with its uncompromised focus on enhancing the safety of athletes and consumers on the mountains through the brand’s ongoing commitment to extensive R&D and utilisation of cutting-edge technologies.

Victor Humbert, Product Manager at SCOTT Sports, said:

Designing a helmet is a surprisingly complex task, and designing a great helmet like the Symbol 2 Plus takes a talented, dedicated team who understand the science behind their products. This helmet represents the pinnacle of helmet development as cutting-edge science and engineering underpin every aspect of its design.

This collaboration with SCOTT Sports further reinforces D3O’s ongoing commitment to R&D to reduce the risk of concussion-related injuries for end-users across a range of applications, specifically within the sports and defence sectors. D3O currently partners with US based company Schutt Sports to deliver a range of helmets for Baseball, Football and Lacrosse featuring D3O® technology. In defence, the British based impact protection company’s D3O® TRUST seven-pad system has been adopted by leading helmet manufacturers 3M Ceradyne and Morgan, as well as several other specialty suppliers to the Law Enforcement / Tactical market in both the US and Europe.

ISPO MUNICH attendees will be able to see the exciting new safety product for the first time by visiting SCOTT Sports’ Booth (#502) in Hall A6
