D3O®, the world’s leading impact protection brand, today announces Robin Gillon, a professional freestyle skier, as its newest official brand ambassador. Gillon, who was born severely deaf, is recognized for being ranked as one of the top five skiers in the European Cup and the top 50 overall in the World Pro Tour.
The announcement marks Gillon as the face of D3O’s brand activity in the snow sports market, and he will also work closely with the D3O innovation team as part of the company’s product development program. Gillon currently wears the ISPO-award-winning SCOTT Symbol 2 Plus D helmet with integrated D3O material to protect against impact.
Gillon began skiing at a young age and was selected to join a prestigious Swiss Olympic Sport School program in 2011, despite having only 10 percent hearing in his left ear and 30 percent hearing in his right ear. Since then, he has climbed the ranks in his professional career and obtained awards for his biographical documentary, “Sound of Silence with Robin Gillon”, which won Best Cinematography Film at the Los Angeles Diversity Film Festival in 2019.
Reflecting on his induction as a D3O ambassador, Robin Gillon commented, “It’s an honor for me to join the D3O ambassador program. My sport is fast, and precision is more fundamental than ever, so I rely on D3O to provide the technologically advanced impact protection that I need to stay safe and mitigate the risk of head trauma, and the consequences that would have on my remaining hearing. My SCOTT helmet with D3O gives me the confidence I need when going into freestyle jumps to focus my mind and make the most of each run.”
“We’re thrilled to welcome Robin to the D3O family as one of our newest brand ambassadors,” said Mostyn Thomas, General Manager and CMO at D3O. “He is a champion on the slopes and an inspiration to all aspiring athletes. We are confident he will bring the same passion and dedication to D3O, using his platform and profile to support our goal of enabling athletes to take risks, challenge their limits and stay safe.”
Robin Gillon is the latest addition to a growing team of D3O ambassadors that includes downhill mountain bike role model Tahnée Seagrave; Seth Jones, ice hockey defenseman and alternate captain for the Columbus Blue Jackets in the NHL; Michael Dunlop, 19-time winner of the most challenging motorcycle road race in the world – the Isle of Man TT; the Troy Lee Designs team of athletes; and the SCOTT SR Suntour Enduro Racing Team.
